CD Review – Keiko Matsui – Moyo – Shout! Factory

I truly liked Keiko Matsui’s latest CD,Moyo which is Swahili for Heart and Soul. Keiko gently has challenged herself as any good artist will do by bringing in a gang of awesome talent including sax player Gerald Albright, soprano sax player Paul Taylor, bassist/vocalist Richard Bona, drummer Akira Jimbo and vocalist Waldemar Bastos.

From the first track “Heart and Soul” to “Um Novo Dia”, they were uniformly good.

I liked “A Great Romance” which featured piano, drums, and synthesizer. “Caricias” is a catchy Latinesque tune. Three songs “An Evening in Gibraltar,” “Old Potch Road” and the last song “Um Novo Dia” feature Hugh Masakela and his trumpet.

Keiko’s reowned piano and soft jazz grooves are wonderfully enhanced by this super gathering of some of the world’s best musicians

It is a CD worth listening to time and time again.

Highly recommended
